Technique Tuesday- White Crayon Resist

This technique is one I introduced to Australia many years ago, in Stamping & Papercraft, Vol 6, No 1. And now it has become one of the “Go-To” techniques for so many people.

BASIC TECHNIQUE:
1- Stamp an image on gloss card with a dark ink.

2- Blot the image very well. Stazon is a great ink for this technique because it does not smudge.

3- Steal a white crayon for your children or grandchildren lol.

4- Use the white crayon to colour parts of the image. The white areas will be highlighted on the finished card.

5- Sponge over the top of the image, using different coloured dye inks, until you are satisfied with the result. The ink will not stick to the white crayon.

VARIATIONS:
* Use a brayer to ink over the stamped image.

* Use either a solid colour or multi-colours on the brayer (See my tutorial on using Stampin’ Spots with the brayer)

* You can draw lines on the gloss card with white crayons, to create a plaid effect

* Write words or draw pictures with the white crayon

In this card, I stamped the butterflies, coloured with white and then brayered over the top. I used Stampin’ Spots to ink the brayer, as shown in my previous tutorial.

With this card, after I brayered the previous card, I did not clean the brayer. I used markers to draw stripes on the brayer and then rolled onto the card. I then drew lines on the card with white crayon, re-inked the brayer, and rolled over the card again. I think the result is quite effective.
